The Ĺ has written to the Prime Minister pointing out that one measure the Commonwealth could take to improve the capability of police and emergency services is to provide mobile broadband communications for first responders. This capability will be in place for the G20 Leaders’ Summit in Brisbane through a temporary arrangement but for the rest of Australia, 20th century communications continue.

On the weekend, the Prime Minister Tony Abbott and Justice Minister Michael Keenan announced the eligibility for the National Police Services Medal will in the future recognize the service on or after 14 February 1975, the date on which the Australian Honours system was established.
